The Drift Creek Company — Custom Outdoor Structures Built on Trust

Our commitment to honesty, loyalty, and giving back guides everything we do — helping customers throughout Pennsylvania and the  Mid-Atlantic create outdoor spaces that truly fit their lives.

The Drift Creek Company was founded in Waymart, Pennsylvania by James Ashby — an outdoor structures expert, licensed real estate professional, and lifelong outdoorsman with a passion for redefining what's possible in custom outdoor living. The company's name was inspired by Drift Creek, a spot on a Colorado ranch where James and his family gathered each year for their annual elk and mule deer hunt. It's a place where tradition runs deep, friendships are forged in the field, and time away from the noise of everyday life reminds you what matters most. That spirit — of craftsmanship, authenticity, and building things that last — is at the heart of everything the Drift Creek Company does.

We're new on the scene, but our foundation is solid and our ambitions are bold. As a web-based business with deep local roots in Northeast Pennsylvania, we're growing throughout Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic — bringing a fresh, modern approach to custom outdoor structures without losing the hands-on craftsmanship that makes every build worth owning. Our commitment to honesty, loyalty, and giving back guides everything we do, as we help customers create spaces that truly fit their lives.

Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver a seamless, personalized experience for every customer — from your first online search to the day your structure arrives on your property. We believe every build should reflect its owner's unique style, needs, and vision, so we guide you through every step with honesty, transparency, and open communication.

At the Drift Creek Company, each structure is thoughtfully crafted by skilled local builders who care deeply about quality and lasting results. We're always exploring new materials and smarter construction methods to ensure your building stands the test of time — whether it's a backyard shed, a custom pavilion, a fully finished garage, or a year-round greenhouse.

What truly drives us is building trust and real connections — not just with our customers, but within the communities we serve across Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. We're dedicated to setting a new standard for service, integrity, and innovation in outdoor living — one project at a time.

Meet James Ashby

James Ashby founded the Drift Creek Company in April 2025 with a straightforward premise: deliver custom outdoor structures the right way — quality materials, honest communication, and a buying experience that respects the customer's time and investment. At 25, James brings a depth of experience that goes well beyond his age.

Raised in Northeast Pennsylvania, James grew up working on his grandfather's farm and in the family's farm market — environments that instilled a no-shortcuts approach to work that carries through everything he does today. He began his construction career as a laborer and carpenter with Grimm Construction and Pioneer Construction, building real-world skills from the ground up before ever running a project of his own.

In 2020, James graduated from Northwest Lineman College in Florida, adding significant technical depth to his electrical construction background. He also studied Electrical Construction Technology at Johnson College while still in high school, and holds professional certifications in crane operation (NCCCO), metering, and OSHA 10 Electrical Transmission & Distribution. These credentials aren't decorative — they reflect a standard of safety and technical precision that informs every project the Drift Creek Company delivers.

James is a licensed Realtor in both Pennsylvania and Florida — and an active real estate investor himself. That combination gives him a perspective few outdoor structure builders can offer: a firsthand understanding of property values, zoning considerations, and exactly how the right structure can increase a property's long-term appeal and functionality. He brings that insight into every client conversation, helping customers make decisions that pay off well beyond the day of delivery.

Committed to the region he serves, James sits on the Canaan Township Planning Commission in Pennsylvania — giving him a working knowledge of local land use, permitting, and development that benefits every customer navigating those processes.

Outside of work, James golfs, hikes, hunts, and fishes — and each year he returns to a Colorado ranch with his family for their annual elk and mule deer hunt. It's the trip that inspired the Drift Creek name, and a reminder of why the outdoors is worth building for.
