If you've landed on one of our product pages or a cost guide and found yourself wondering who's actually behind The Drift Creek Company, this post is for you. Here's our story, what we build, where we build it, and the person who started it all.

How The Drift Creek Company Started
The Drift Creek Company was founded in Waymart, Pennsylvania, by James Ashby — someone who's spent a lifetime around hands-on building work and wanted to bring a fresher approach to portable buildings and outdoor living. The name comes from a real family gathering spot in Colorado — you can read James's full story on our About page.
We're a newer company, but the foundation is solid. As a web-based business with deep local roots, we're growing throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic — bringing more personalized, more transparent outdoor-structure buying to more properties every year.

What We Build
The Drift Creek Company designs and delivers custom outdoor structures across several categories, each available as either a modular build (constructed off-site and delivered ready to install) or a fully on-site build (constructed directly on your property for maximum customization):
Greenhouses — from compact 8x10 seed-starting spaces up to large four-season growing setups. See our Custom Greenhouse Cost Guide for pricing.
Pavilions — covered outdoor living space for entertaining, dining, or simply extending how you use your yard. Explore Backyard Pavilion Ideas for inspiration.
Sheds — storage and workshop space in a range of styles
Garages — single and multi-bay options, with modular builds typically offering faster installation and on-site builds offering more layout flexibility. Not sure which build type fits your property? See Modular vs. On-Site Garages.
Cabins — a step up in scale for guest space, a retreat, or an income-producing structure
We also build horse barns and pool houses as custom projects. These aren't currently part of our online shop catalog — they're handled as fully custom quotes, so if you're interested in either, the best next step is reaching out directly rather than looking for a listed model.
Every structure we build is put together by skilled local builders and can be personalized on layout, features, color, and finish — you're not limited to whatever's already sitting in a size chart.
Where We Build
The Drift Creek Company serves the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, delivering and building across 10 states: Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. Availability of specific sizes, styles, and features can vary by delivery location, so if you're near the edge of our service area, a quick check with us is the best way to confirm what's possible for your property.
How the Buying Process Works
Whether you order from our curated online catalog or work with us on something fully custom, the goal is the same: a smooth, transparent process from your first search to the day your structure shows up on your property.
That means:
Clear, upfront information on sizing, styles, and (where published) pricing — no digging required
The option to personalize color, layout, flooring, shelving, and add-ons depending on the structure type
A free quote process that doesn't lock you into anything
Financing options if spreading the cost out works better for your situation
See the Work
If you'd rather see finished projects than read about them, our project gallery has real examples of completed builds across our structure types — a good way to get a feel for what's actually possible before you request a quote.
